Design your own kitchen
The Kitchen is one of our favourite rooms in the house, especially for Sidney as he loves to cook. We had great difficulty finding an individual kitchen at a reasonable price. A great way to get the kitchen you want is to find someone to hand make it for you. It requires a lot more patience but you can achieve fantastic results. We used Odeon Antiques in Leek to make ours. First I found several kitchens that I liked from magazine articles and used these for inspiration. Then Sidney drew sketches of what we wanted. Selected a colour, French Grey by Zoffany. To finish we wanted to add to the eclectic feel mixing a variety of handles and fittings. We were really pleased with the end result and most importantly kept the cost to a minium which allowed us to purchase a vintage dresser for the crockery and the oven of Sidney's dreams "Les Pianos Gastronomes" Lancanche.
We also added some personal touches. Sidney made our "Joe's Cafe" wall sculpture (above), our son is called Joe! And one of Sidney's salvage pieces, a Canal measure takes pride of place. I love the vintage OXO tins, I hide chocolate in them!
