Puglia Truly Inspirational
Recently returned from our latest holiday in Puglia, In the South of Italy. It has been truly inspirational. I used the oportunity to take many photographs which I will be able to use for my work. I am currently designing a new wallcovering book and the trend for salvage and upcycling of furniture continues and is the main inspiration.
We visited many towns, which in typical Italian style are usually perched on top of a hill. Our favourite being Matera, actually just outside of Puglia in the region of Basilicata. With a history dating back to the Palaeolithic era, it is one of the most magical places in Italy. There are buildings upon buildings and you will have to wind through the maze of small domiciles, caves and churches to find the best views of this old city. The most exciting area is the Sassi (Ancient town), where you can stay in luxury at the Sant' Angelo resort or for the absolute experience try the Palazzo Gattini. You will also find the best gelati in Italy (in our opinion), I Vizi degli Angeli or the vices of angels. Visit Matera soon before it gets too popular as it will become the city of culture in 2019.
